RE: Jayco 23 B owners?

Have a 2003 Jayco 23B
If I could change ONE thing?
I'd make the rear bunk a Queen sized. Perhaps the new ones have this already?

RE: Is our T.V antenna going to work in 2009 ??

Your antenna will pick up the digital signals just fine.
Your TV, however, needs to be able to accept these digital signals.
If it can't, then you'll need a digital/analog conveter.

RE: Securing a Yamaha EF2400iS Genny

Paint it yellow and put a Kipor logo on it.
At least nobody from this forum would steal it.
Actually, has anyone ever had their taken with a simple chain through the handle? That's all the protection I plan to provide this weekend, but I'm in a state forest with other sites and people. I guess real boondocking would provide for bolder thieves.

Berkshires/Western MA State Parks?

I'll be heading out to Western Mass into the Berkshires over Columbus Day weekend.
Any recommendations for which State Parks are the best?
Or since I've been very happy with the MA state park system, are there any that are less desirable?
No hookups, just need a dump station.
Looking for large wooded sites with plenty of bike/hiking trails.
Thanks.

RE: Maxx Air II Vents

Actually, the airflow may indeed be better without the cover. I'm just saying that it's more than sufficient for my needs with it on.
It was a major concern for me prior to installation, but I'm VERY happy with the results.
My fan only exhausts air. Perhaps it's a bigger difference on intake?

RE: Maxx Air II Vents

I've got the MaxxAir II over my Shurflo fan, and even though it isn't "recommended" for the high velocity fans, it works like a charm.
My Shurflo doesn't switch to intake, but when I have the fan at about medium speed, it will pull my trailer door shut!
I don't think I need it to pull more air than that.

RE: Camp cape resort, E. Falmouth, MA

My family and I rode the Shining Sea Bike Trail into Woods Hole yesterday.
The large parking lot at the Ferry (in Woods Hole) is for day parking. It's $12 per day.
So they DO have parking in Woods Hole, in addition to the multitude of metered parking, but those have a two hour time limit.
Just figured I'd provide an update.

RE: Is that a generator I hear???

It was indeed a very nice campground. I will go back again when I travel to that area.
I emphasized resort because that was the basis of my gripe. I paid extra to stay at a place with hook-ups, yet would have had to endure a generator were it not for my complaint.
I just found it to be odd, and as mentioned I thought it was handled in the proper fashion.

RE: Anti Back Flow water connections at your campground?

Don't know that I've been to a campground where three RVs were on the same spigot. Pretty sure it would not make my "great" list. Never been to a campground in Fl that had one either.
The three feeds off of one line only made this more obvious.
Without an anti-siphon (That's the name I was looking for) unit, the same effect happens even if the lines are less obvious and split under ground rather than right at the spigot.
The positive flow of water running towards my camper creates a vacuum and the stagnant water of other hoses with the water shut off will potentially back-flow into the water stream.
It should be code at all campgrounds.

Is that a generator I hear???

On the first day of a week long vacation at a very nice camping "resort", I heared the monotone growl of what sounded like a generator. Since I was close to the group activity field, I assumed that they were using one for some sort of kids game or something. I continued to sip my beverage and read my book.
After nearly an hour, I got up to investigate because the noise was impossible to ignore and I was hoping I wouldn't be hearing it all week.
As I approached the open field, I noticed that the sound was coming from my neighbors seasonal site!
The generator was housed in a crude enclosure made from cynder blocks laid in such a mannor as to allow airflow through the holes. A pipe was used as a muffler extension and it pointed towards my camper.
I went back to site to review the rules and to see if any of the sites had no electric. All the sites in that area did have electric, although only 20A.
I went back over to this season site and asked the young man sitting in his chair what was going on. He said that the owner had permission to run the generator for his Air Conditioning. I asked him to repeat that, and he confirmed that he had permission.
I thanked him and walked directly to the office, since there was no use complaining to someone who had permission.
The office manager confirmed that he was allowed to run the generator because he had an older dog that needed the AC.
I told the manager that I chose a campground with electricity so I wouldn't have to hear the generator. He agreed that was a reasonable expectation and he immediately took care of it.
I was VERY happy with the way this was handled, but it still seems odd that they would allow this to occur.
It was only about 80 to 85 degrees, and with the slight breeze and ample shade it was quite comfortable.
To make matters even more bizarre, my electric outlet had a 30A breaker next to the 20A breaker. I was waiting for the generator to kick on again and I was going to offer the use of my electric hookup, but the week ended without incident.
By the sounds of things, I was the first one to speak up regarding the generator. The couple in the seasonal site were very friendly, and in fact their dog (at least the one I saw) looked to be "middle aged" and quite active during their walks.
I just found the whole thing odd. But they handled the situation very well.

Anti Back Flow water connections at your campground?

My family and I returned recently from a weeks vacation at a great campground.
While hooking up, I noticed that the water spigots did not have anti-flow back adaptors (anti-vacuum? I forget their real name).
In any event, my water source was split into three spigots, and two of them led directly to the camper at the sight behind mine. A seasonal sight.
I went over and introduced myself as his new neighbor for a week. I then asked about the water setup, because I was concerned that one of those hoses may lead to an undesireable location. He assured me that both were connected to a fresh water supply, and that I was surprisingly the first person to ever ask him.
I hooked up my water, confident that I wasn't going to be pulling any undesriables into my faucet, but curious why the campground wasn't equipped with these simple yet effective devices?
I thought about purchasing one to use at such campgrounds, but then realized it wouldn't help MY water supply when attached to my connection.
I'll be paying more attention, but is this the norm?
Am I just being overly cautious because I was chastized for failing to put one on my house (by my brother who is a plumber)?
Thoughts?

RE: Camp cape resort, E. Falmouth, MA

The ferry parking is 4 miles away. Last time I went to the vineyard, we parked at the terminal. Now it is all employee parking. This drove me crazy, How can you support tourism and local business and have VERY limited parking ??
The ferry lot at woods hole is now employee only??
It's been a while since I've parked there, since we almost always combine a trip to woods hole with the bike ride, but I'm surprised they have that many employees. It's a pretty big lot.
That is indeed awefully inconvenient.

RE: Camp cape resort, E. Falmouth, MA

I usually park further up towards Falmouth Hostipal and then ride our bikes down the Shining Sea Bike Trail into Woods Hole.
If I needed to drive in, I would park at the Ferry parking. It's a huge lot and it's free.

RE: Activities at cape or Lebanon, ME

Can't help you with the Horse thing, but if you've brought your bikes you should jump onto one of the many bike trails on the cape. Head out to the rail trail, or go down to Falmouth and ride the Shining Sea into Woods Hole. Then go to the Woods Hole Science Aquarium. It's "free" but make a donation.
ALso on the Cape, take in a Cape League baseball game.
As for Lebenon? Stay right in your campground!
We just returned from a full week at Flat Rock Bridge and LOVED it!
The waterslide was awesome, tubing on the river was relaxing, the pools were clean, the hot tubs great, and my kids had a blast finding frogs in the pond.

RE: Dakota and Jayco 19H

Just to drive the point home: Get a tranny cooler. You will NEED it in the hills, and burning up your fluid just ONCE can hurt your transmission.
I used to tow my 23B with the Dak QC. Same engine, same gears.
The longer wheelbase of the QC was nice for handling/control. Your shorter trailer should be OK with your set up.
Good luck.

RE: Coleman AC problem. Need help.

I didn't run the microwave. I just happened to notice the light (clock) dim.
I've run the AC off of my house 20A outlet many times. I've never had this issue, but then again it's not often as hot as it has been here lately.

RE: Coleman AC problem. Need help.

Thanks Old Salt.
I did mean compressor.
I believe that I have found the problem. I noticed after cleaning the coils the unit turned on, ran smoothly, then did the same thing. This time, however, I noticed that when the unit started chugging that the microwave light also dimmed.
I shut everything off and checked the electrical connections only to find that they were indeed very hot.
During one trial, the breaker did kick out, but the AC fan keep running on low speed for about 30 seconds before it shut off. Could that have been the charge on one of the capacitors? And would this hurt the AC in any way?
I'm holding off additional trials until I can get a 30A connection.

Coleman AC problem. Need help.

My 2003 Jayco has a rooftop Coleman Mach AC. I believe it is the 8000 series.
We don't use the AC very often, but it is hot out today and we turned it on while cleaning.
Well, it stayed on for about 5 minutes, then you could hear the condensor turn off, and the fan kept switching from the high RPM to a lower RPM intermittantly.
I ran it on High Fan for half an hour or so, switched it over to High Cool, and it did the same thing. Ran for 5 minutes and then shut off.
The thermostat was set at high, and while the condensor was on the air did cool pretty well. It's a hot day today, and I'm not certain of my voltage. We usually have fairly high voltage and I'm always able to run the AC through my 20A outlet.
Any ideas as to why it's shutting down?
Thanks.

RE: Breed bans at campground question

I don't own a dog (due to allergies in the family, otherwise I would have a big friendly mutt), but while booking my most recent trip I noticed the same term: Aggressive Dogs.
Most gave a clear definition of Pit Bull, Rot, Dobermann and German Shepard.
What breed to you own? Is it a breed that could be called "aggressive" in the general sense, even if yours is very gentle?
Regardless, your best bet is to tell them the breed and ask them directly.
Trying to sneak one past the goalie by docturing tags is likely to cause everyone grief.
Besides, wouldn't your rabies papers list the breed?
